Music

The other language I think in

Music isn't a hobby I picked up to be interesting at dinner. It has run in parallel with everything else for years — the same instinct that makes a business work, operating without words.

Why I make music

It answers a question business can't

Business rewards patience. Music doesn't. You make a call, and four hundred people answer within a few seconds — with their feet, not their opinions. That's a kind of honesty you can't get in a boardroom.

It also keeps me a beginner at something. Playing guitar in front of a crowd is a reliable way to stay humble, and being humble at one thing tends to make you better at the rest.

And it's social in the way I like: a set is just a room full of people agreeing to be somewhere together. That's the same thing I'm doing when I put a dinner together.

Four hundred people answer within a few seconds — with their feet, not their opinions.

Artist

DJ sets with live guitar over the top — and a country-EDM lane that started as an experiment and stuck.

The performing side covers clubs, festivals, private events and corporate stages. The format shifts with the room: sometimes it's a straight set, sometimes it's a set with a guitar strapped on, sometimes it's built entirely around one crowd and never played again.

Country EDM is the thread I keep pulling. Texas gave me the first half of that and dance music gave me the second, and the overlap is more natural live than it looks written down.

Live duo · DJ + electric guitar

Mixmode

Mixmode
DJ and producer — Kristian Cruz on live guitar

A hybrid duo: my DJ set underneath, Kristian Cruz playing live electric guitar over the top of it.

Mixmode is two performers, not one. I DJ and produce; Kristian Cruz plays the live electric guitar. The guitar is his, not mine — that distinction matters, because the whole point of the format is that it is genuinely live rather than a backing track with a prop.

It works because a guitar can answer a room faster than a track change can. Sets get rebuilt around whatever the crowd is doing, and no two nights come out the same.
